The lesson

Revisiting one subject teaches careful observation. The subject can remain unchanged while light alters its appearance. Keep the viewpoint and framing similar, then record the conditions you cannot control. Automatic exposure and white balance may also affect the result, so avoid claiming that every difference came from time of day. Choose two convenient times with suitable access rather than making an unfamiliar night outing part of the assignment.

What to photograph

Photograph one stationary subject twice. Try a building detail, a tree visible from an established path, or an object near a window. Record actual capture times, visible shadows, and general conditions. Make a third photograph only if it answers a new question.

Try it close to home

Use an object near a window in the morning and afternoon, keeping its position unchanged. If the light does not change much, describe that finding. You can also compare a window-lit version with ordinary room lighting and label the changed setup.

Review your choices

Review the photographs together before choosing your final selection. Write one sentence explaining the purpose of each selected frame. You may complete the planning stage with written descriptions or sketches if a camera is unavailable. Photograph only from places you are permitted to use, and choose subjects that do not require showing identifiable people.

Practice

Submit two views and a comparison of 100 to 150 words. Identify two constants, two possible variables, and one conclusion supported by the photographs.

Worked example

The camera position stayed similar, but the afternoon image has a longer visible shadow. Automatic color adjustment is noted as another possible contributor to the difference.
